Science Center for Marine Fisheries (SCeMFiS)
The Science Center for Marine Fisheries is a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC). The center is comprised of two university partners: the University of Southern Mississippi and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Dr. Eric Powell is the Director of SCeMFiS and the USM Site Director. Dr. Roger Mann is the VIMS Site Director.
SCeMFiS’ capabilities encompass the range of oceanographic, fisheries, and marine biological disciplines essential for addressing the data resource and analytical challenges faced by modern-day fisheries management.
What Does SCeMFiS do?
- SCeMFiS provides academic research products essential for the sustainable management of shellfish and finfish resources.
- SCeMFiS seeks to simultaneously achieve the goals of sustainable fish and shellfish stocks and sustainable fish and shellfish fisheries.
- SCeMFiS supports an academic research program encompassing both components of the management process.
