ROV Successfully Tested at John C. Stennis
The pelagic team finished testing on their ROV at the NOAA test tank Aug. 1 at the John C. Stennis Space Center. Testing included more than 25 hours of submersion with several long simulated descents under full power. The ROV performed at a high level, which will allow precise handling in scientific missions. “With zero visibility in the test tank we exercised the SONAR extensively and explored the entire tank,” said Ed Cassano, CEO of Pelagic. “We even picked up all the loose items on the tank floor with the manipulators. I can’t wait for the open sea.” The ROV will be utilized on the R/V Point Sur in future research projects.
