Buildings taking shape at GCRL's Marine Education Center site
Construction continues on the GCRL Marine Education Center. The foundations for all the buildings have been poured, and walls, roof trusses and roofs are being added. The rooms in the Administration building are now easier to identify and with a little imagination you can see how the public will flow into the exhibit space and reception area. The openings for windows define the views from the buildings and they offer expansive vistas featuring Davis Bayou, the forested bayhead and maritime forest surrounding the center. Recently, classrooms on the education side of the center have started to take shape with walls and roofs going up on those foundations. Later this month, construction on the Bayhead Pedestrian Bridge will start. The bridge spans an environmentally sensitive natural forested bayhead. Visiting students from grades 4-12 participating in coastal science camps will cross the bridge to the education side of the center to participate in marine science educational programs in the classrooms.
